As others have pointed out, too long, drawn out, repetitive and honestly many passages are easily skipped. This detail of her private life, like much else, was never mentioned. "Brilliant. James had so cogently introduced morality and philosophy in all her novels but here encapsulates her final thoughts, like an attorney's summation, in the briefest yet clearest expression. Cheverell Manor is a beautiful old house in Dorset, which its owner, the famous plastic surgeon George Chandler-Powell, uses as a private clinic. I rated this 4 stars as much because I love James and her wonderful language. For the plot of this story, I think the explanation of the motive for the first two murders makes sense. This is the way good literature should be. James is known for her tightly written mysteries that are elegant in their descriptive language while providing mystery lovers with an engaging mystery that holds your attention until the final pages. . I was so happy to see that she had another story in her.
James makes you care for the victims and then makes you feel outrage when life is snatched from them.
